Jomthong Choowattana has chance to make fighting history , 17/06/2012

There have been many Thai boxers who have gone on to win world boxing championships.
That ultimate duality in title fight excellence may well be achieved if Jomthong Chuwattanna, the undisputed WBC world lightweight Muay Thai champion, makes it to the top of the boxing world.
Ever since Jomthong Choowattana stepped into the Rajadamnern stadium, he has made an indelible mark with his hand skills and not just the kicks and knee strikes that befit the elite fighters in Bangkok.
Jomthong is a gifted puncher with a long reach that compliments his exquisite timing. He's a born pugilist. And he's also greatly admired by ringside stalwarts for having "perfect motion" with imposing long legs and arms that that can sweep through the strongest defence.
For a while, it seemed that Jomthong's continued success in Muay Thai would distract him from a fists-only boxing career.
But his ambition to become a world boxing champion skyrocketed when he won the WBC Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation super-featherweight championship against South Korea's Dong-Kyuk Kim on May 29.
Jomthong is following in the footsteps of Thai boxing great Sot Chitalada when he crashed through the barriers; switching from being a first-class Muay Thai professional to a fine boxer as well.
Jomthong was just a boy when Sot was Thailand's boxing hero but with Jomthong's knockout win against Kim in Korea in the ninth round, many pundits predict that he's not far away from being the next big sensation _ and it won't be long before he gets his shot at a WBC world title.
Jomthong's boxing record reads three fights, three wins, three KOs.
We are welcomed the new champion.
